Great Meeting on Feb 12th!
This was yet another great Auburn Brew Club meeting at Scott’s house. Thanks to Scott for hosting. We started out a little slow, but by 7pm, most people were there. Here was the homebrew log:
Scott J: Hefeweizen and IPA
Jeremy & Christian’s English Pale and Irish Red
John Little’s English Brown and Baltic Porter
Mitch’s Brown Ale (Voted best of the night–recipe to follow)
Mike J’s Jackle Juice (Porter)
Doug’s Fore Cats Winter Ale
Ben and Coady’s Dry Stout
Mike Mulvaney’s Irish Red
Stephen’s Gruit and Dunkelweizen
We judged Stephen’s Dunkelweizen, and overall it was very close to style and well received, however it was lacking a little head, and a residual sweetness left over in the aftertaste.
Ben won the raffle of some terrific beers, to include some from Ommegang brewery.
We discussed various ways of bottling, from natural carbonation to beer guns and counter pressure bottle fillers. We also discussed welding kegs and showed off Mike’s work on Stephen’s keg where he welded a 1/2 inch coupler in the bottom making it usable as a HLT, Boil Kettle, or Mash Tun. A great meeting with beer and learning as always!
