Pack some food, homebrew, good commercial beer, chairs, tasting glasses, etc. and join the Auburn Brew Club in the grassy park area just south of the RBD Library (a.k.a. Draughon Library) for tailgating before and after Auburn’s home football games. First, “Learn to Brew” on Sunday, June 29, from 1pm until ?, at Auburn Brew Club member Doug B’s house. Doug will be brewing an all-grain American Wheat Ale. If you are interested in learning to brew your own craft beer, this “Learn to Brew Day” event is a great opportunity. Give it a try, and like others, you might find you’re able to brew better beer at home than you can buy.

Second, the Auburn Brew Club’s July Monthly Meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 8 at 6:30pm until ?, also at Doug B’s house. The reason the date is tentative is that Alabama State Senator Ted Little (Lee County) has been invited to attend. Senator Little has accepted the invitation contingent upon working out one possible conflict. We are trying to keep the meeting date flexible to accommodate Senator Little’s schedule. There will be many locally brewed craft beers available at the July meeting, with the beers’ brewers on hand to explain how the beers were made and in-depth discussion about the beers aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel, and overall characteristics.

On tap, brewed recently and ready to sample now, will be (i) English Special Bitter, (ii) French Saison, (iii) Scottish 80, (iv) Brown Porter, (v) Wheatwine and (vi) Rauchbier.

We have 2 email lists.

Announcement List. One is a one-way news and announcements list used to send alerts or newsletter type stuff to those interested in homebrewing activities and events in and around Auburn. If you’d like to be on this announcement list, just fill out the contact form and say so. We’ll be happy to add you.

Discussion Listserv. The other is a discussion listserv for members. We are now adding folks to the brew club’s discussion listserv after they have attended a brew club event.

Here are a few listserv tips for existing listserv members:

If 3 messages to you “bounce” the system automatically unsubscribes the address.

You can visit this link to read past messages all the way back to when the list was created. It is a private archive, and you’ll need to log into it using the email address with which you are subscribed and the password automatically sent to you in your welcome message when you subscribed.

You can send certain commands to the system by addressing an email to the following from the email you’re subscribed to the listserv with:

If you no longer have that password, or the system didn’t send you one, you can request the system to send it to you again. Just include the term password as the subject of the email.

To get a list of all commands you can send to the system, include the term help as the subject of the email.

To see who is on the list, use the phrase who password as the subject of the email, but use your actual password instead of the term password.

There were over 360 entries in the competition. I’m not sure who all from Auburn entered, but Stephen placed 2nd out of 18 entries in the Belgian Strong Ale category with his Belgian Blond Ale, which he named “Ivanna Data Belgian Blonde”
